Auburn Had it All Sewn Up!

My husband really enjoys watching football -- college and pros.  So needless to say, our TV was on most of the weekend from the Packers at Thurs. noon thru Sunday night.

One momentous game was the Auburn- Alabama game.  Each team made a touchdown starting at the opposing teams end zone and running the entire length of the field. .  Auburn's was the winning touchdown of the game.  But, to me this was not the highlight.

The highlight was when Auburn's equipment manager pulled out a sewing machine on the sidelines and repaired a wardrobe malfunction for one of the players.  Once they got the jersey back on the player, there was still a rip, so out came the needle and thread and the job was finished by hand.  Hooray for sewists everywhere who save the day, be it football jerseys, Halloween costumes, last minute alterations in the school play, etc. etc.  What a great moment!

I doubt this will ever make the highlights reel in Auburn's training camp, but it was still a victory to me!

Only In Packer Country . . . . .

Since Green Bay won the Super Bowl last year, the NFL is providing a free pre-game concert tonite with Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum and Maroon 5 prior to the season opener. To make this happen two main streets in that area are closed for 10 days to set up and take down the stage, street lights and stop lights were removed, as well as several trees.

3000 tickets for the concert were handed out which required those who signed up for them to stay at the concert site after the game starts tonite. A second concert will then be held outside the stadium and filmed for showing on TV at some later time (Watch your listings, ladies! LOL)

The good news is that some really nice things are happening too. A number of the Packers players are leading sessions of Play 60 to get kids active for 60 minutes a day. Some former NFL players and members are building a playground at a local school. Several retired Packers are to be honored and are participating in the pre-game and half time activities on the field. That is always a cool thing.

A Chilly Fall Weekend

This weekend was the Purdue- Illinois football game. Our son is a student at the University of Illinois and I went to Purdue. We drove to Champaign for the weekend and went to the game on Saturday. It was windy and cold, but the sun was shining and we were sitting in the Purdue section with lots of other Boilermakers. Purdue lost miserably, but it was still fun to see all the colorful orange shirts and watch the bands from both schools and just soak up the atmosphere. We even took in the women's volleyball game in the evening. Next year, maybe Purdue will have a comback!!
