Fun Sewing

I recently found this Goodnight Moon panel for $3.50 at the local quilt show.  That seemed like a good deal to  me, so I snarfed it up.

A few days later I was gifted a ½ yard of this striped fabric from a guild member who was cleaning out her stash.  She actually gave away ½ yard cuts to everyone at the last guild function.  That's a lot of stash.  I looked at that striped fabric and couldn't quite imagine how I would use it.  When I got home, I set it down on the chair where I had put the Goodnight Moon panel and it was Kismet.

I couldn't wait to get to the store to buy the green border fabric and make a top.  This will go to our guild's Comfort Quilt program that supplies the local pediatrics wards.  The borders are big, but there is a size requirement, so big they are.  This couldn't be any easier.  Now to find a backing and whip up some binding.

I also found this turquoise fabric to make the final row of my Florida Row By Row quilt.  I have been slowly making progress and only have a few more appliques to complete.  Yea!

My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary this week.  It hardly seems possible that I was ever this young and that time has passed so quickly.  We had a big day hauling mulch to our backyard.  We still have more mulch to haul, so we will be celebrating for days to come!!

A Little More Quilt Show

I cleaned out my camera today and found a couple more photos from the quilt show.  I couldn't resist sharing them as this is such a great quilt.  This looks like a printed panel, but it is not.  All applique.

You can see the detail in the close ups.  This quilt was made by Marilyn R. and she says that a friend asked her to make a quilt from his old neckties.  The barn in the top right is his barn.  The quote in the center panel is from Paul Harvey.

TADA!  A blue ribbon.  When I picked up my packet of judges' remarks, I received a check for $20 in prize money.  My husband asked if that means I am a professional quilter now!!  LOL!!  I was really surprised, but very honored.

Quilt Show Part II

 This Santa quilt was done by a student of Gail V.  Gail is the teacher and she entered the same quilt with a white background.  Both are fabulous.  This one has a tan background and was made by Patti.

 A lady that I see at the Y asked me to submit this quilt for her as she was on vacation that day.  It was all rolled up on a long core and wrapped in plastic, so I couldn't see what the quilt looked like.  Imagine my surprise when I saw it hanging!  This is Carol's first entry in a show and she won a blue ribbon!!  This is Barbara Brackman's Civil War Sampler.

 Jacobean Journey by Mari H.  This is machine embroidered and quilted on a Pfaff machine.  It is made in squares and then sashed on the back to cover the seams.  It is truly a work of art.  How she got all the pieces to line up is a miracle.

Designing Monday & Quilt Show Report

I have worked a little more on my Florida quilt.  I don't seem to enjoy machine applique as much as hand applique, so I dole out the work on a daily basis to keep it moving.  Here's the little I accomplished this week.

But I have a great excuse.  My son and his fiance came to visit for the weekend, so there was some house cleaning involved.  We got to hear more about their wedding plans and just catch up on the news.  This was also the weekend of the guild Quilt Show, so I have photos to share.  Lots of beautiful quilts.  I am so in awe of the members of our guild.  New this year is a modern quilt category.  Here are some of my favorites.

 4 Squares were machine embroidered with the words from Silent Night.  The filigree around the circle is exquisite.

 My very favorite quilt in the show.  It is based off of a pen & ink drawing of downtown Green Bay in 1976, (the year I moved here).  This is a slice quilt completed by 12 people.  I really don't know how they got the slices to match up so well.

 A Flock of Feathered Stars by Angie - all pieced on a hand crank machine.  It was awarded an Honorable Mention by the judges, a ribbon for Best Machine Quilting, and a Ribbon from the chairwoman of the Show.  Pretty Special.

Summertime Designing Monday

Summer is upon us and I have not much to show in the way of quilting.  Seems I have been too busy pulling weeds.  I am working on a Row by Row quilt that I saw in Florida.  I have finished 2 of the rows and have most of the applique cut out for the rest of the quilt, but don't seem too motivated to get moving on it.  It is a cute quilt, so I'm sure I will get to it soon.

This weekend is our guild's biennial quilt show.  If you are in the Green Bay area, please come out and visit and see some beautiful work.  I am entering 3 little quilts.  It is fun to be part of it and meet some new people.  Here are my entries.
