Our guild sponsored a challenge this past year which was featured at our recent show. Each person who participated received a small piece of cloth and then had to choose an idiom that had to be represented in the quilt. An idiom is a saying that can be taken literally or figuratively. Here are a few of my favorites from the show:
Zero Tolerance
Right Up My Alley
A Fish Out of Water
As you can see the three above were all award winners. They are all fantastic in their own way. The nuns were actually made in 3 D and their chins stood out from the quilt. Same with the hands and the items they are holding. The detail in the alley scene is incredible. The fish in the third piece is beaded to perfection.
This is my idiom quilt. I actually have two idioms. Time Flies ... In a New York Minute. I made each NY Beauty block represent a different season. It was fun to make and I love all the colors.
This quilt was not an idiom quilt. It was an art quilt entry and it won the Best of Show. It is truly lovely and well done. The quilter made it from a photo taken in Europe by her nephew.
