February Small Quilt

I enjoy the quilt challenges that Kathleen Tracy provides each month on her blog,The Sentimental Quilter.  I pick and choose which ones I want to do and enjoy having lots of little quilts in my home.  I  finished piecing the February quilt just in time for the end of the month. I used the leftovers from the Buck A Blocks I just did to make the HST"s.   It will get in the queue for quilting with my other little treasures.  I made this one in the same colors that Kathleen made hers.  I really like the blue and green combo.  I probably would not have gone for this choice otherwise and I really like it.  What do ya think?

We had 4-5" of snow Tuesday night and Wed. am.  An hour from here they had 17".  That is huge.  How can we be so close and have such a difference?  This always boggles my mind.

We are staying in and keeping warm today after a trip to the Y.  Gotta get busy quilting.

Designing Monday

I have finished all of my Buck a Blocks that I won in the guild auction two weeks ago.  There are 20 total.  They will sit for awhile as I need to figure out what I want to do with them.

I also made up 5 blocks for Kathy Tracy's monthly quilt challenge.  I need to find some other fabrics to go with to finish it up this week.

I did lots of sewing this week as I was home with a cold and lots of snow.  Somehow it doesn't seem I have much to show for it.

I loved the Oscars last night and am so glad that Argo won.  It is the only film I saw and I was on the edge of my seat thru the entire movie.

Hope you are having a good week.  Hop on over to Judy's blog to see more fun designs.

Oh, Dear!

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.  In this case ...

there is only one word:  OOPS!

After I linked to Judy's Design Wall yesterday, I went back to look at other's work.  When I scanned past the thumbnail photo for my link, I came to a screeching halt.  I sewed my block together wrong.  If I hadn't posted it, I might never have even realized it.  Oh, well.  It is fixed now and I have moved on to sewing more blocks.

We woke up to another snowfall covering the trees and bushes.  It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.  Hope you enjoy a day of sewing and fun.

Designing Monday

Last Tuesday, the local quilt guild meeting topic was a Chinese Auction.  I don;t know exactly what that means or why it was Chinese, but the gist of it was everyone brought in new or gently used items from their sewing rooms that they no longer wanted.  Then the items were laid out on tables.  Each member was given 20 tickets and we walked around the tables and put our tickets in the containers for the items that we wanted.  I only bid on about 6 items.  There were probably 60 - 70 items.  Then the person leading the auction starting pulling one ticket from each container to determine the winner for each item.

The item with the most tickets was this item

and guess who the winner was???  I could't wait until I got home to open it up, so I ripped it open at the meeting and started checking it out.  Here's what was inside:

Saturday morning I started cutting the first block

and before I knew it I had it all sewn together.

So then while I watched the Saturday morning quilting shows on PBS, I cut all the pieces for the first 10 blocks.  Then I managed to get the next 6 sewn on Sat. and Sun. and here they are:

Each kit comes with 2 WOF strips that are 2.75".  I normally oversize two squares to make my HST's so this was a challenge for me.   So I finally pulled out my Easy Angle ruler that I bought several years ago and put it to work.  I definitely like this method and will use it again.  I still find that I am trimming to get my HST's square, but there is much less waste.  Occasionally I get them cut and sewn right on the money and there is only the little dog ear to chop off.  But that seems to be mostly luck!!

So what's on your design wall today?  Hop on over to Judy's to see more beautiful designs.

Abundance

I finished the quilting and binding of this little Abundance quilt today.  I just love that name.  It really makes me feel blessed.  This was a design from Humble Quilts.

I also quilted a donated top from the local quilt guild.  Someone had several bolts of fleece that they no longer wanted, so we were given a top and a fleece backing to put together. No batting needed.  After sewing them together, I trimmed the fleece to 3/4",  folded it over, and zig zagged it on the top.  This seemed like it all was pretty easy, but somehow came out a bit wavy on the edge.  Still very usable.  It is a comfort quilt to be given to the pediatrics ward at a local hospital.

Hope you have a happy Valentines Day!

Designing Monday

I had such a good time making the soldier quilt at quilt camp last weekend, I decided to make a second one.  The first one was made from CW reproduction prints and this second one is from a hodge podge of more contemporary brighter fabrics.  I hope to finish it this week.

Designing Monday

Dear Mom and Dad,

Had a great time at camp.  Send money please.

I think this sums up my fun weekend at quilt camp.  I worked on a soldier quilt for our guild.  And went to a local quilt shop where I did a little damage to my credit card!!!!  The facility we stayed at was really nice and they fed us too well.  We were the only guests at this hotel and the owner designed a drink for us called a Stitch Ripper.

Here is the quilt top I finished.  I modified a pattern from the Fons and Porter magazine to fit the dimension requirements of our guild.
