Designing Monday

I actually got some quilt type sewing in this week.  I pieced this cute RW&B top for fun after I saw it on Pinterest.  Anybody else do this?  I love finding new ideas and figuring out how to piece something.  I like the math part.

Kathleen Tracy of the Sentimental Quilter blog hosts a monthly challenge for her Yahoo group.  This month's theme is Blue & White.  Once more, Pinterest came to the rescue.  I found a cute little quilt that was just what I wanted.  I drew up the pattern and got busy.  There will be a group trunk show via Facebook in September, so I won't be showing a pieced top or finished quilt until then.  Here are some of the pieces.
A few of these
And one of these
And a long strip like this.

Hmmm.  Wonder what it might be!!

Designing Monday

I had lots of fun at Quilt Camp over the weekend.  They fed us too well and there was lots of time for yakking and sewing and there is even a quilt shop about a mile down the road.  It is next door to a really nice shop with tons of Vera Bradley bags.  So lots of shopping time too.  The hotel we stay in is  so happy to have us since it is their off season.  Here are my projects I worked on:

 Borders completed.
Closeup of borders.  Such cute fabric.
I pre-cut most of this and sewed like crazy trying to finish it on Friday.  Unfortunately there was quite a bit of rework in the sewing - partly my fault and partly the pattern, so it ate up most of Saturday, too.  This is a freebie at Temecula Quilt Co.'s blogsite if you are interested.  It is a valentine quilt.  Beware that the borders do not fit according to their instructions.  I believe they gave an incorrect dimension for the red inner border.

I also worked on 2 other projects but didn't make much progress there.

Designing Monday

This is the only sewing I did this week.  It was all hand sewing which I do usually in the evenings or weekends while watching TV.  I appliquéd the Dresden plate flower during the first half of the Packers game.  Good thing I finished, cause the second half was all Packers action and I had to watch every play.  Finally a win!

I hope to have it quilted today so I can sew on the binding at my stitching group tomorrow night.

Designing Monday

My post looks nearly the same as last week.  I finished one of the two leaf projects I started last weekend and mailed it off to a friend for her birthday.  Then I realized I forgot to take a photo of it to post here.  I guess you will just have to imagine how cute it was!

Here is the second project.  I got it quilted and prepared the binding and then decided it needed some more quilting.  Finally I am ready to put on the binding which should happen today.  I seem to need to do a lot of percolating in my brain in between steps.  I sort of dither over the right fabric for the border or the binding or the right quilt pattern, etc.  Am I the only one?

Our fall leaves are falling from the trees pretty quickly here.  There are still a few on the ash trees behind our house.  The maples in front are always the last to go and they haven't even changed color yet.

I don't think I ever posted this finished little quilt. It is my last orange and black quilt.   I decided to free hand quilt some little pumpkins along the border.  They turned out fine and really finished it off well.  I got this cute hanger at the Quilt Expo in Madison.  This is a 12" quilt.

Hope your fall is beautiful wherever you are.  Hop over to Judy's blog to see some beautiful designs.

Designing Monday

It's nearly October and that can only mean one thing.  Time for more orange and black quilts.  I have had more quilts in my head since last year when I got on this kick and I think it is time to pull them out and put them on fabric.  I put together this little checkerboard to be the center of a little quilt. The squares are 3/4".

I'll add some borders and call it done.

Since I already have 3 other black and orange quilts, I'm not sure how many more I will make, but I have lots of fabric in those colors, so I guess I will keep going til I'm tired of them.  LOL!

These are last year's little fall beauties

February Small Quilt

I enjoy the quilt challenges that Kathleen Tracy provides each month on her blog,The Sentimental Quilter.  I pick and choose which ones I want to do and enjoy having lots of little quilts in my home.  I  finished piecing the February quilt just in time for the end of the month. I used the leftovers from the Buck A Blocks I just did to make the HST"s.   It will get in the queue for quilting with my other little treasures.  I made this one in the same colors that Kathleen made hers.  I really like the blue and green combo.  I probably would not have gone for this choice otherwise and I really like it.  What do ya think?

We had 4-5" of snow Tuesday night and Wed. am.  An hour from here they had 17".  That is huge.  How can we be so close and have such a difference?  This always boggles my mind.

We are staying in and keeping warm today after a trip to the Y.  Gotta get busy quilting.
